OTHM Diploma in Education & Training Management (ONLINE)

The objective of the 3-year OTHM Diploma in Education & Training Management qualification is to develop learners’ understanding of theory and practice relating to their role in education. The qualification will provide learners with an opportunity to engage with the challenges facing professionals and policymakers in their own country. It will provide knowledge that underpins the ability to work as an effective practitioner in the education sector. The units combine both theoretical and practical knowledge in the education profession and will develop and enhance knowledge and skills in the areas of effective performance, planning and accountability, development and team working. Learners will be able to work in a variety of roles within education administration and/or management.

The Year 2 course is a teaching qualification which has a mandatory teaching/training practice requirement. It is an ‘in service’ qualification designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers/trainers in England. All learners must have access to 100 hours of teaching and there must be a minimum of eight observations of practice, totaling a minimum of eight hours. The objective of the Year 2 course is to give the learners the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills needed to confirm occupational competence. This includes the planning and delivering of schemes of work and sessions, negotiation of individual goals, different teaching and learning strategies, communication issues and how to utilise a range of assessment practices. 

The Education & Training Foundation has approved the Year 2 course for accreditation. Learners successfully completing the Year 2 course will be eligible to progress to the status of Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS). This is conferred through a separate and subsequent process called professional formation and is administered by the Society for Education and Training (SET) which is the professional body for those working as teachers and trainers in the sector. Teachers with QTLS is eligible to teach in schools in England.

The Year 3 course aims to develop learners understanding of the theory and practice involved in education. It provides learners with an opportunity to engage with the challenges facing professionals and policy makers in their own country. It will provide knowledge that underpins the ability to work as an effective practitioner in the education sector. It combines both theoretical and practical knowledge in the education profession and will develop and enhance knowledge and skills in the areas of curriculum planning, effective performance, action research and development. Learners will be able to work in a variety of roles within education and/or management.

Completion certificate is conferred by OTHM. As our OTHM accredited qualifications are approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) and Qualifications Wales, learners who complete the Year 2 course are eligible to progress to the final year of BA (Hons) Professional Studies (top-up) at University of Portmouth or at other partnered universitiesLearners who complete the Year 3 course are eligible to progress to master’s degree with partnered universitiesSuccessful completion of the Year 3 course enables learners to progress into or within employment and/or continue their study towards a relevant master’s degree with advanced standing. 

OTHM is also a full member of Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB), the trade association for vocational awarding bodies in the UK which represents the interests of over 110 awarding bodies by liaising with key stakeholders, including the regulators, government departments and funding agencies. OTHM has established strong academic relationships in the UK and overseas to ensure that OTHM qualifications are globally accepted by all academic institutions. The units covered over the 3 years are:

Assessment:

  • Assessment is based on coursework, assignments and essays with no formal examinations
  • Guided learning hours to fulfill: 480 hours per year
  • Credits to attain: 120 credits per year

Entry Requirements:

Diploma in Education & Training Management

Age

18 years and above

Progression

1. General Cambridge Examination (GCE) Advanced Level (2 passes and a pass in English Language paper at GCE Ordinary Level); or

2. Mature candidate – 21 years old and above with  

   i. a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience and meeting the English Requirement; or

   ii. GCE Ordinary Level – 3 passes (a pass in English Language paper); or

   iii. GCE Normal Level – 5 passes (a pass in English Language paper) or equivalent.

English requirement

1.  Pearson Test of English (PTE) 51; or

2.  IELTS 5.5; Reading and Writing must be at 5.5; or

3. Equivalent (Pearson Versant English Test). Students can attend Pearson Online English (POE) to brush up on English.
